And here is Tommy, waiting a full fifteen minutes before he shows up, complete with his messenger bag and Speedy hanging out of it some making squeaky noises between bites of carrot.
"So, the book I have on Speedy says he should be close to full grown soon but..."
He pets his fluffy little baby sloth. Who has grown some, yes, but is still clearly a juvenile sloth.
"Dude, my brother is a witch and a god, I believe in magic," Tommy shrugs. He can believe in it. That said, he lifts the bag off of his shoulder and then puts it over Gar's shoulder.
"You carry the kid. I've got snacks for him in my pocket."
“Wait...” Gar raises a brow. “Does that mean you’re a god too?” He asks because brothers would be the same right? Gar’s hand goes to the strap, shifting it and looking down at Speedy.
"Dude, it's beyond weird," Tommy admits, and he wilts a little. His brother was... so much more important than he was. "I don't want to talk about it."
Gar's brow furrows a little and apparently he had stumbled into a sore spot somehow. He bit the inside of his cheek briefly. "Sorry," he said and then put a smile on his face and nudges the other.
"Well, I've got to buy a lot of things. Fresh veggies, flowers, fruit. Things like that for Speedy. A few toys to replace some of his stuff. Another humidifer for the dome."
And it's just like that. Small things to make his pet happier.
"He... can't take care of himself," Tommy points out. "His happiness depends on me. Depends on me slowing down and making the right choices. He's helping me be a better person."
Oh, really? Tommy pauses to stare and then pauses briefly. How did he explain it.
“People don’t like me very much, or thing that I can take care of myself, much less another person. Another life. And maybe once they were right. And I definitely wasn’t good at caring about myself. Doting on him… mostly means I can learn to do that for myself.”
Like sloths? Hell no. Tommy laughs and shakes his head. "They weren't even something I saw in animal picture books growing up. Speedy's... just special," Tommy answers, strolling forward, but walking backwards.
