"Dude, it's beyond weird," Tommy admits, and he wilts a little. His brother was... so much more important than he was. "I don't want to talk about it."

Gar's brow furrows a little and apparently he had stumbled into a sore spot somehow. He bit the inside of his cheek briefly. "Sorry," he said and then put a smile on his face and nudges the other.

"So what's the plan today?"

"Well, I've got to buy a lot of things. Fresh veggies, flowers, fruit. Things like that for Speedy. A few toys to replace some of his stuff. Another humidifer for the dome."

And it's just like that. Small things to make his pet happier.

Gar smiles and he pets Speedy a bit as they head off on the adventure of the day.

"Sounds like you do everything to make him happy."

"He... can't take care of himself," Tommy points out. "His happiness depends on me. Depends on me slowing down and making the right choices. He's helping me be a better person."

[garrrr]

"I get it... I just mean it's kinda cute how doting you are," Gar grins. "I like it about you."

Oh, really? Tommy pauses to stare and then pauses briefly. How did he explain it.

“People don’t like me very much, or thing that I can take care of myself, much less another person. Another life. And maybe once they were right. And I definitely wasn’t good at caring about myself. Doting on him… mostly means I can learn to do that for myself.”

Gar smiles at the explanation and he glances down at Speedy.

"Then it's probably lucky you got him right? And you got people that like you. Some of them even like you a lot."

Gar thinks he's funny.

The people who like him are... complicated. It feels like they'll go. And Tommy knows Speedy won't. He is just happy to have his pet.

"You think? Maybe some people who like me a lot? Cool."

[garrrr]

"At least one," Gar says with a sly grin and nudges the other with his elbow as he looks down at Speedy again.

"Pretty sure Speedy loves you though."

Does he? Does the animal feel love? It sure seems to love clinging to Gar.

Tommy smiles at Gar and pauses to pull the guy into a kiss.

"I'm hoping someone else likes me too."

[garrrr]

Gar sure thinks that animals do and maybe it’s because of what he can do. Maybe he thought it before. So there’s no reason to think Speedy can’t.

Gar smiles as their lips meet and his free hand went to Tommy’s side briefly.

“I think it’s well established someone does.”

"Yeah, I think we have," Tommy agrees, moving away from Gar so he can guide him toward the store once more.

Gar smiles and he doesn't try to get Tommy to stay close to him and he walks along, playing with Speedy as they went.

"Did you always like sloths?"

[doubled_speed]

Like sloths? Hell no. Tommy laughs and shakes his head. "They weren't even something I saw in animal picture books growing up. Speedy's... just special," Tommy answers, strolling forward, but walking backwards.

"Oh wow," Gar laughs and he can agree that Speedy is special.

"Tigers were always my favorite," Gar says absently, it's not totally the same thing but y'know.

"That why you're a tiger?" Tommy asks, walking back another few strides before opening the door of the shop they are heading to.

[garrrr]

Gar slips inside the shop and he nods. "The guy who made me like this thinks it's some psychological thing," Gar shrugs.

"I can turn into other animals too but the tiger was the first one and it's the one that feels right."

“Brain stuff, I never get it,” Tommy mumbles as he follows Gar. “What other animals? Should we be getting you toys and treats too?”

Not gonna lie, playing with a tiger boyfriend could be fun.

Gar shrugs. He doesn't actually get it either. It just is what it is.

"I haven't done a lot... just kind of know I can. I was a snake once," he scrunches his nose at the memory and not just because he disliked being a snake.

"It's not really...hard? I mean in theory it's basically rewriting my DNA but that's not how it feels."

"Maybe you could be a sloth. I could cuddle you both," Tommy grins as he moves through the store and coolers in the back. Yep, it's a slower shop. This is where he comes for his supplies. And there's a container with his name on it.

"So, wanna help me see if there are other flowers he wants? He's got his standard ones here."

[garrrr]

"Do I need to be a sloth to get cuddles, though?" Gar asks and he almost wants to take it back, moving along with Tommy as the other got the supplies.

"Of course. We gotta go above and beyond."

"I... I don't think you do," Tommy says, smiling. "The cuddles last night were good."

Then he's moving forward to look through other flowers.

"Good to hear you say it," Gar grins and he pets Speedy as they're looking through the flowers, though admittedly he might be distractedly looking at Tommy more often than not.

"is he real picky about flowers?"

Well, Tommy is a beautiful guy and for the moment, Gar's. So yeah, look.

"Nah, I just like to pick out ones he shows an interest in and look pretty."
