[You know how they warn that if you leave a room closed up long enough, mice move in and use it instead? Something similar has happened here, except it's much, much worse than mice.

The apartment door is hanging ajar and the faint scent of sulfur and dog is in the air.]

[ For a while now, Gar had pretty much had the place to himself, not that it mattered much lately when Dick had a room for him in the Up. Sometimes he needed to get away from everyone so he could stop forcing the happy veneer that's expected of him.

He notices immediately that something's amiss given the door being open and... what is that smell? He grimaces a little. ]

Hello...? [ He says cautiously entering his own place. ]

[Something inside the room clatters to the ground.] --Whoops! Shit.

[It sounds like books. Did Gar have books in there? Because there's a half-knocked-over pile of them on the edge of the little table in there, along with a pile of food wrappers.

There's also a guy in a jacket that has an honest-to-god fur collar, with his boots up on one of the beds, just kind of kickin' it when his roomie walks in.]

[ Gar definitely does have books still there, most of his vinyls had been moved to Dick's place so at least there's nothing he'd be super worried about if it got knocked over and all. He raises a brow as he looks at the person who he now sees. ]

Hi... [ He guesses he'd missed something while he was in the Up. ]

[Dirk opens his mouth to say something, but immediately becomes distracted. Sitting up a little, he pauses to obviously sniff the air, and follows that up a few moments later with a sudden grin.]

Oh! You're the guy who lives here, huh?

[Kicking his feet back over the edge of the bed, he stands and heads toward him, strolling right up into the proximity usually reserved for friends. His teeth are sharp, his eyes are weird, and he holds his hand out for handshake.]

I'm Dirk.

[garrrr]

Sorta... I'm not here all the time.

[ Which might or might have been obvious. He gives Dirk a once over once he's strolled up close. Luckily, Gar doesn't have a big personal bubble or anything. Usually he's invading other people's personal space so he's unbothered as he takes the other's hand for a firm handshake. ]

Gar. Guess you're new?

[Now that he's close, he takes another sniff of the guy's scent... and he narrows his eyes slightly for a moment. There's something a little bit more interesting--maybe even more exciting--than the usual human smell. Maybe he's got a pet or something.]

Yep, by like... hours, basically.

[Even guessing at how long he'd been here isn't easy. Time has always been a challenge for him.]

If you're not new, have you been here long enough for this place to make any sense?

[garrrr]

[ Is that guy sniffing? Gar pushes aside the thought and shakes his head a bit as if to clear it. ]

It makes a sort of sense in it's own way. There's rules and that tends to bring a sort of order that you can make sense of but it's still pretty ridiculous.

[ Gar shrugs a shoulder a bit non-commitally. ]

You wouldn't have left if you had thought anything like that could happen. It doesn't make sense to say it's your fault. I did a bunch of stupid shit after you left. They shouldn't have ever been able to get to Conner. I should have been more careful about the things I said.

I guess that's the one thing we can agree on about it.
